Why a Color Fun Run and Technology Fundraiser?
Hughston Elementary will hold its second Color Fun Run in order to bring the Hughston community together for a family friendly event that focuses on the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle no matter your fitness level.
This year’s event is also a technology fundraiser for Hughston students to raise money to help Hughston purchase technology that is needed in their classrooms. Having technology based learning resources in the classrooms is important for Hughston students to be engaged in different ways of learning, thinking and creativity.
What’s a Color Run? It Sounds Like Fun!
The Hughston Color Fun Run is an un-timed jogathon where ‘runners’ (Hughston students) are dusted in different colors at color stations around the lap course by their very own Hughston teachers! The COLOR is made of dyed cornstarch - all products are 100% natural and safe. The Color Fun Run is all about a color crazy hour of Hughston students running, walking, or skipping (if they wish) with friends while family supports them as they run laps! Water and sno cones will be available after the event!
Ok, I love It! When and Where Is The Color Run?
It is at Hughston! Students will run a small loop on the school property, and they can run as many times around as they can! This is an after-school event – Hughston students will love to have their family members watch them run! The date is set for Friday, March 24th from 6:00 – 7:00pm. Put it on your calendar now!
How Does the Fundraising Work?
Hughston students can find sponsors from asking their parents, family, friends, and community to pledge a flat dollar amount to help raise money for technology in their classrooms! The top two students in each grade who raise the most money will enjoy a popsicle party!
More FAQs to get you up to speed
How many laps will my child likely run?
Three (3) laps is just over one mile (each lap is approximately .35 mile). Although the amount raised is not based on how many laps your child runs, we would like to encourage all the students to run the course as many times as they can! The more they run, the more fun they have! (and the healthier they are!)
When should we arrive?
Since this is not a timed race event, parents can arrive before 6:00 to get your ‘color runner’ at the start line for the start horn at 6:00. But you can also arrive any time after 6:00. Hughston students have until 7:00 to complete their laps.
Will my child have fun?
Ahhhh….yes!!! Just checking to see if you were still reading. Keep going…you are almost to the end!
What does my child wear at the Color Fun Run?
Students are encouraged to wear the 2017 Color Run shirt. Students who donate at least $25 online will receive a new official event shirt for this year! Dress to have fun! But don’t wear anything (shorts/shoes) you don’t want to get full of color.
Does the color stain clothes or shoes?
The color does mostly wash out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful. Shake off all excess powder before washing with water. If you would like to preserve the color in your running shirt, spray it with vinegar and iron it. But if you wash it….it eventually will come out.
How does the color affect the inside of cars?
Most people bring some towels for the insides of their cars, just in case. It’s like driving home from the swimming pool in your swimsuit, just dirtier.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes! As with any donation to the Hughston PTA, sponsor donations to the Color Fun Run are tax deductible!
What is the timeline and deadlines I need to have on my calendar for the event?
- February and early March – Students start contacting relatives, friends and neighbors to sponsor your laps
- Please RETURN the Pledge Forms to your teacher by Friday, March 24th, 2017
- Time for Color Run fun! – Friday, March 24th, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
